The Cannon public house was reopened on Friday 23rd March after a major refurbishment which has transfomed the pub into the main place to be on the high street. The pub had suffered badly, again from poor management, and daniel pettigrew training were contracted to help the new owners to market the business and to provide ideas and inspiration for promotions and pushing the business forward.
The team training took place a few days before the opening day and staff were trained in customer service, operating standards, handling complaints, and selling skills. Further training is planned for merchandising, bar skills, and cellar management. The new owners are more than pleased with their new pub and were quick to comment on the difference the enthusiastic and inspiring training has made to the whole team.

Hartlepool Mail, published on Wednesday 4 January 2012 14:00
BUSINESS UPDATE PIC LEAD FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4th.
FORMER nightclub DJ Daniel Pettigrew is a nationwide hit thanks to his own training company.
Hartlepool-born Daniel, started his working career as the DJ in the Gemini nightclub in town, but the licensed retail trade soon beckoned and he joined Vaux Breweries in Sunderland.
Different roles soon followed, in bar and nightclub management, before Daniel became the Regional Promotions Manager for a national leisure company. Daniel said: “It was a troubleshooting role to visit poorly performing venues nationwide and put them back into profit.”
Soon after, in 1997, he started up his own business, Daniel Pettigrew Training, with his wife Alison, who he met whilst working in Dumfries, Scotland, and who is a partner in the company. The couple, who now have a nine-year-old son Oliver, developed the York-based company into a firm which delivers training courses and qualifications all over Britain.
It has proved so successful; Daniel has won the Professional Trainer of the Year title at the National Innkeeping Training Awards, six years after lifting the crown for the first time. The firm was also ‘Highly Commended’ in the Security Training Award category of the awards.
Daniel said: “We have many clients across the industry including national pub companies, supermarket chains, and restaurant and hotel groups, and many colleges and universities. In fact, we do a lot of work with schools and colleges in confidence building, conflict management, and life skills to help young people find work and more experienced students get back to work.
“A large part of my work is taken up with business support, which is visiting businesses which are either struggling and in need of urgent help and some which need new direction and ideas.”
Daniel Pettigrew Training currently have four office staff, and use up to 40 trainers at 30 centres around the UK.
