BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

Summary

The qualification will provide candidates with knowledge of the parameters of basic food safety practices as relevant to the catering industry. Achievement of the qualification will enable learners to identify how to make changes to catering practices in order to improve the safety of the catering service as a whole. This qualification provides candidates with a range of food safety skills directly relevant to the Catering and Hospitality industry.

The qualification would be suitable for anyone who is involved in food handling who is required to be trained in food safety and those working in the hospitality industry are likely to deal with food every day.

This qualification will provide learners with the knowledge they need to work safely and hygienically with food and to ensure that training requirements have been met, and can be evidenced through an approved qualification certificate.

Assessment is by means of externally set and marked 20 question multiple-choice examination paper taken in controlled conditions. Successful completion of this unit will mean that candidates are awarded the BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering qualification certificate.

It also forms an important part of the qualification structure for the Level 1 Award in Introduction to Employment in the Hospitality Industry (AIEHI) and the Level 2 Certificate in Licensed Hospitality Operations, the technical certificate for the Licensed Hospitality Apprenticeship Framework.
